MUSING was started through something simple - a school project. Three high school freshmen were assigned to work together to find an environmental problem in the local area and volunteer to fix it. At first, they looked at project topics that everyone else was doing, such as beach cleanup and invasive species. While those were perfectly sensible topics, these freshmen wanted to do something bigger. When one of them noticed that millions of crayons were thrown away daily, they combined their heads and came up with an idea - crayon lipstick.
Throughout hours of research, they found that this lipstick was healthy for people to use. In fact, it was healthier than most lipsticks on the market, which contained chemicals that could cause developmental delays, birth defects, and even death! From that day onwards, these girls made it their mission to provide a cheap, healthy, and environmentally friendly product that still had the beauty of those on the mainstream market.
All crayons used in MUSING are 100% recycled. They are washed thoroughly and checked for any signs of toxicity. In addition, 25% of all profits are donated to a charity that supports the exploration of ideas, since a musing is simply a period of reflection or thought in which great ideas come to life. These high-schoolers want to change the world in whichever way they can, and MUSING is a step in the right direction.

Riya started MUSING as a high school freshman through a school project and has since fallen in love with the company. She has always been a business-person at heart. From a young age, she always had some business venture going on. Even though most of them were unsuccessful, Riya kept at it, due to her goal to leave her mark on the world one day. Now, as the founder and sole employee of MUSING, Riya is ready to fight prejudice by spreading a message through MUSING. She believes that equality spreads to all areas, including sexuality, race, religion, and other facets of being, and wants MUSING to support that message through its products and donations. She is a sophomore in high school right now and dreams of going to Berkeley Haas School of Business and NYU Tisch School of Arts one day. In her spare time, Riya enjoys taking photos, performing in theatre, and writing music, among other things. She hopes that the name and message of MUSING spread far and wide, and everyone remembers that ideas can change the world.
